"My name is Nicole, I am 42 and I come from Vienna.

It was two years ago, when I talked to my cousin, who lives in Bogota. He told me that he had had a surgery on his eyes which made it possible for him to live without glasses or lenses.

Being long sighted very strongly myself and having astigmatism I have already heard about that possibility. The only problem about it was, in Austria doctors would only make it up to about 4 dioptries, less than I had.

On the 3rd of July I finally arrived in Bogota and a week later I had my first meeting with Juan Andres. I immediately felt very good. He explained everything to me, had a lot of time and answered all questions. He had a look at my eyes and told me to come the next day for further examinations. That was a Thursday. On Friday noon the doctor called me to tell me that it would be possible to do the surgery on me.

The date was fixed for the 26th of July. On the 25th he asked me to come to his office again to inform me about all the possible risks of the surgery. He told me what to do the night before and when to come.

Having been very excited, I didn´t really sleep a lot. I was prepared for the surgery, took a pill, put on the clothes and shortly later was brought to the operating theatre. My doctor was already there and I calmed down immediately. I lay down, got a ball to hold and waited what would happen.

Juan Andres did exactly what he had explained to me. There were no surprises. I really felt safe and was not excited. I watched the red light as I was told before and tried to do everything that was expected from me. … It took about twenty minutes, but it didn´t seem so long to me, till the nurse aked me to stand up. The doctor congratulated me, and let me know that I really had done a great job. I haven´t tried to close my eyes, watched the ligth and tried to be very calm.

10 minutes later Juan Andres had a look at my eyes in his office. Everything was perfect. I was sent home to sleep for some hours and later he called to ask if everything was okay. It was OK. I could read things without glasses, that I was not able to read with glasses before. Great!

The next morning I had my first control. And again everything was okay. 3 more dates followed and I could see better from one day to the other. fantastic. I had to sleep with special glasses for eight days, was not allowed to go to the sauna, swim in the sea or in pools, but that was no problem for me. I was – and I stimm am – happy.

Now I am back in Vienna for one week and my eyes are still improving.

Whenever I should need a doctor for a surgery on my eyes again, I will go to Colombia. I found a doctor who really cares about his patients and one could feel that. I wasn´t a minute worried about the surgery-I felt great and I think that I had one of the best doctors anybody can imagine."

I have been a patient of Dr. Juan Andrés Delgado for the past four years since my family’s arrival in Bogotá. Dr. Delgado is a professional with whom I feel comfortable, confident, and secure in caring for my vision.

For over thirty years since I was a young boy, I had managed my myopia with both glasses and contact lenses. While both methods provided me the opportunity to enjoy the sights around me, they were not without their restrictions. As a child, glasses were often damaged, broken or scratched, and at the best of times the lenses were in need of cleaning. Participating in sports meant always being more concerned about the protection of my eyewear than focusing on my skills. In my early twenties, I began wearing contact lenses which, while they provided more flexibility in my sports activities, were often uncomfortable and needed excessive daily care.

While I considered corrective surgery as a viable option, the procedure was somewhat cost-prohibitive while living in Canada. When I moved to Bogotá in 2004, I arranged a consultation with Dr. Delgado to determine my suitability for laser eye surgery. He fully explained the preliminary tests and the procedure, and gained my confidence that I had found an excellent specialist. Following successful and thorough exams, my surgery was scheduled at a cost approximately one-third of that which I had previously researched.

The procedure was absolutely painless, and to my surprise, with immediate positive results. I was shocked and amazed at my ability to clearly read a wall clock across the room, and to realize less than 10 minutes had passed since I first sat in the chair! After some quiet time at home with minimum exposure to bright light, I was ready to resume my normal activities the following day. Follow-up exams showed perfect results, and now I return on an annual basis, with absolutely no diminution in my vision. In fact, Dr. Delgado and I laugh at my new-found ability to read in Spanish since my surgery!

I now enjoy super-sharp vision, without restriction, at a level I never dreamed possible.
